'Fight Back Pittsburgh' group protests at inauguration

People who were trying to attend President Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony were out of luck if they were in some areas.

At least three security checkpoints were blocked by protesters chanting, “This checkpoint is closed.”

Protesters from “Fight Back Pittsburgh” told Channel 11 that this was going to be the plan for Friday.

Channel 11's Katherine Amenta reported that security remained very tight after a tense post-inauguration scene. Protesters started throwing bottles and bricks, and police fired tear gas and made nearly 100 arrests.

At least two officers were hurt during those afternoon clashes.

The Pittsburgh protesters joined groups from around the country to form human blockades. Supporters of Trump said that while people have the right to protest, they, in turn, have the right to attend the inauguration.

One man from California said he tried to end the blockade through conversation, but it ended in a shoving match.

“You can’t have a dialogue when you violate people’s rights, and that’s what he just did,” the man said.

One protester said he believes that the blockades went too far.

“It’s really hard to get everyone on one page, with one message," he said.
