Former state trooper, Mt. Lebanon police chief named head of Allegheny County Police Department

PITTSBURGH — There’s a new head of the Allegheny County Police Department.  Coleman McDonough will begin his role as superintendent sometime before July 1.

County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said, “McDonough brings relationships and skills to the table that will allow him to collaborate and interact with his colleagues in law enforcement while also strengthening and enhancing what services we can provide to our partners.”

McDonough was a longtime Pennsylvania state police trooper who worked his way up through the ranks to deputy commissioner.  He is also the former chief of the Mt. Lebanon Police Department.

“I’m equally excited and honored for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Allegheny County and for the privilege of working with the outstanding men and women of the Allegheny County Police,” said McDonough.

As superintendent, McDonough will oversee a budget of $29.6 million and a staff of more than 260. He replaces Charles Moffatt, who retired in March.
