O'HARA TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Giant Eagle is eliminating hundreds of positions at its corporate headquarters in O'Hara Township.
According to a news release issued today, 350 positions are being eliminated, which is roughly one percent of the company’s total workforce. The cutbacks are a mix of voluntary and involuntary actions.
talked to shoppers outside the East Liberty store who said they hope more cuts aren’t looming.
“It’s going to put a lot of people in a bad situation, especially those with children” said Chico Butler.
Giant Eagle said no store personnel are impacted.
The company cited a challenging food retail climate as part of the reason for the restructuring. The news release said the company will continue to evaluate all aspects of its business to ensure it remains competitive for both employees and customers.
Giant Eagle employs more than 34,000 people at 420 locations.
