PITTSBURGH — A 40-pound catfish will be released into the water at Point State Park Wednesday after the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Stanley Cup victory parade.

The fish, appropriately named Stanley, was caught by a local fisherman who donated it to Wholey’s Market in time for the Penguins’ run against the Nashville Predators in the Stanley Cup Final.

Predators fans have a tradition of throwing catfish onto the ice during games. For that reason, Wholey’s checked ID’s during the Stanley Cup Final and would not sell catfish to anybody from Tennessee.

“He's been safe here from Predators,” Jim Wholey said in a news release. “But it's time for him to go back in the river and live his life. We've enjoyed having him visit during the playoffs.”
