Pittsburgh Zoo's new Amur leopard cub makes debut to the public

PITTSBURGH — Visitors to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium will now have the opportunity to say hello to its new Amur leopard cub.

With a little coaching from keepers and a nudge from its mother, the cub has finally ventured into the outside yard.

For nearly two weeks, keepers would open the door to the yard each morning. The cub’s mother, Candy, would go outside and wait for her cub to follow.  The cub would venture to the door, take a look, but dart back inside.

Keepers say the cub is becoming adventurous and loves to climb on the log and pounce onto mom. It also loves to wiggle into the grass, poke her head up and hiss at the visitors.

The cub does not yet have a name, but zoo officials say it will be announced soon.

The cub will be in the yard every day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
