Jitney driver carjacked at gunpoint; 3 teens arrested in stolen SUV

Three teenagers were arrested in a vehicle that authorities say was stolen from a jitney driver who was carjacked at gunpoint.

Officers who were on patrol Thursday in the Hill District spotted a Jeep Patriot that had been reported stolen Jan. 24. Police said the jitney driver, a 25-year-old woman, was carjacked in the Jeep in Hazelwood.

Police said the stolen Jeep was on Elba Street when the driver sped away, running through multiple stop signs. The driver stopped in the grass near an alley on Rose Street and the three teens jumped out and ran away, according to a news release from police.

A passenger, 16-year-old Dorian Williams, was caught at Elmore and Centre avenues. Police said Williams is suspected in the Jan. 24 carjacking.

According to a police report, the jitney driver picked up a male on Mills Street in Braddock and started driving him to Gertrude Street in Hazelwood. The man, believed to be Dorian Williams, then told the victim he was robbing her. Police said he pointed a gun at her  and then stole her SUV with her purse inside it. The victim was not hurt.

Police said Dorian Williams was in possession of several stamp bags of heroin and Xanax when he was arrested Thursday. He is charged as an adult with possession of a controlled substance, robbery, robbery of a motor vehicle and escape.

Police caught the driver, Alonzo Williams, 18, of Penn Hills, in the 2100 block of Centre Avenue around 9 p.m. Alonzo Williams is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, escape, disregarding stop signs and yield signs and reckless driving.

A third person in the car, 18-year-old Jeremy Sowell, of Hazelwood, is charged with escape. Officers set up a perimeter to search for Sowell, who was found shortly after 9 p.m. sitting on a porch in the 2100 block of Hemans Street.
