Las Palmas closing Thursday in opposition to Trump's immigration policies

PITTSBURGH — Las Palmas Restaurante will join Mexican restaurants across the country Thursday when it closes its doors to oppose President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

A sign at the Las Palmas on Broadway Avenue in Beechview, one of four restaurant and grocery locations in Pittsburgh and Washington County, alerts customers to the all-day closure.

Thursday will be the first time a Las Palmas has closed since the first location opened eight years ago. The business will reopen Friday.

In 2015, the Las Palmas grocery store on Brookline Boulevard in Brookline was targeted by vandalism. Graffiti reading “Go back to Mexico now” appeared on the side of the business.
