Search warrant: Parents knowingly left loaded guns out day child was shot

FORD CITY, Pa. — The parents of a 5-year-old boy who was accidentally shot by his 9-year-old brother Wednesday in Ford City knowingly left loaded guns in reach of their children, according to search warrants executed by state police.

The 9 mm bullet that pierced Isaac Deemer in the neck and shoulder area was found lodged in a wall in the home’s kitchen, police paperwork said.

Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz learned Friday that Isaac, who remains at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh with his mother, father and stepmother by his side, is expected to make a full recovery.

According to police paperwork, after troopers interviewed the boy’s parents, they learned both knew that two loaded 9 mm handguns were left out on the kitchen counter. Police stated the father had left the guns out Tuesday night and that the mother was aware of them before leaving for work Wednesday morning.

Troopers also reported that the father told them he normally leaves the weapons loaded but does not keep one in the chamber.

Hours after the shooting Wednesday, Marcinkiewicz reported seeing police remove at least five guns and four boxes of ammunition from the house.

The search warrant detailed what police took into evidence, including a long gun, a shotgun with scope, a Smith and Wesson M&p 15, a Remington with scope, two Ruger 9 mm handguns and more than 200 rounds of ammo.

While Isaac's stepmother and father have not talked to the media, they were questioned by police before heading to Children’s Hospital to see their 5-year-old son.

Authorities said that they’re now waiting for forensics and ballistics before turning the case over to the district attorney who will decide whether charges should be filed.
