Giant Eagle joins fight to keep Walmart out of McCandless

MCCANDLESS, Pa. — Giant Eagle has joined the fight to keep a proposed Walmart store out of McCandless.

A spokesman for Giant Eagle told Channel 11 News that the store would make traffic worse on the already congested McKnight Road.

Officials from Giant Eagle said they have hired marketing research firm to conduct a community opinion poll.

Monday night, McCandless Town Council voted in favor of building a Walmart Supercenter on Blazier Drive.

Hundreds of concerned residents showed up at the meeting to voice their opposition. Many of those residents said they are not giving up their fight, and have hired an attorney to look into the matter.
