Authorities confirmed than man was working at a road construction site when the collapse occurred.
“He was working in the trench, something started to give way, caught him off guard. He moved, slipped and hit his head. Something fell on his leg,” said David Barr, who witnessed the rescue.
People who live near the construction site told Channel 11 News that while the word has been ongoing for quite some time, the trench that the worker was trapped in was dug up Monday.
About a dozen firefighters, EMS and rescue workers assisted in getting the man out to safety within 20 minutes.
The man was transported to Allegheny General Hospital. His name and condition have not yet been released.
