Lisa Sylvester joining Channel 11 News team as new evening anchor

PITTSBURGH — WPXI-TV is adding Lisa Sylvester to the Channel 11 News Team. The announcement was made Friday by News Director Mike Oliveira. Sylvester will join co-anchor David Johnson for Channel 11 News at 6 p.m., Channel 11 News on Fox 53 and 11 at 11 beginning in October.

Sylvester comes to Pittsburgh from CNN, where she had been an anchor since 2004. Before that, she served as a correspondent for ABC.

“We’re lucky to find such a perfect fit for our newsroom,” Oliveira said. “Lisa is not only a great journalist, but a great person. I know she’s ready to work hard and invest in this station and this city. I know our viewers will recognize and appreciate that.”

Sylvester has earned multiple awards in her career, including a Business Emmy for a series about American jobs being sent overseas. She also played key roles in efforts that won CNN a Peabody Award and an Emmy award for coverage of the September 11th attacks.

“I am thrilled to be joining WPXI,” Sylvester said. “This is a wonderful opportunity to join a team that is dedicated to providing the best news coverage. I look forward to raising my family in Pittsburgh and being part of the community.”

Sylvester holds a degree in international economics from Georgetown University and a master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
