Lucky Pirates fans purchase playoff tickets

PITTSBURGH — Dozens of lucky Pittsburgh Pirates fans were lucky enough to purchase playoff tickets Wednesday morning.

Tickets went on sale online, over the phone and at the main PNC Park box office at 10 a.m.

Tim Ginge, of Bethel Park, was the holder of the winning wristband and was first in line.

“I believe now. I believe now,” Ginge said.

Those directly behind Ginge in line were also able to purchase tickets.

“Jubilant is a good word,” Steve Pomykata said.

Some fans told Channel 11’s Trisha Pittman that seeing the Pirates in the playoffs is about childhood memories.

“My dad used to take me to Forbes Field,” Karen Meyers said.

Others said attending a playoff game is more of a historic event than anything.

“This is something. I don’t even remember the last time we were in the playoffs. I was only 4 years old. I figured, if they’re going to have a home game, this is something I want to be a part of,” one fan said.

Tickets for the Wild Card and NLDS round sold out quickly, but fans can still purchase tickets to remaining Pittsburgh Pirates regular season games.
