PENN HILLS, Pa. — An audit posted online by the Penn Hills School District, which is in the midst of a major budget deficit, has investigators working to track down thousands of dollars.
The more than 70-page document highlights financial problems the district had in the 2014-2015 academic year, including $7,500 that went missing.

Gate proceeds from a football game in August 2014 match the amount of missing money, which Allegheny County police are investigating.
"The written deposit form had an internal tracking deposit number assigned to it. Upon investigation by the district, these forms appear to have been not deposited in the district's General Fund bank account by the business office," according to the audit report.
Because it is an open investigation, the district would not comment on the audit.
"I think they should catch the person who did it, and they should be prosecuted," Linda Winterhalter, of Penn Hills, said.
The investigation is the latest setback for the district as it faces a $9 million budget deficit.
Channel 11 News has learned that there was overspending by the district in operation and maintenance facilities and transportation services.
"I think it goes back to the system. They need to keep a better eye on the system," Karlow Zenman, of Penn Hills, said.
