Mom charged after 3-month-old found in running, unlocked car

NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. — North Versailles police said they arrested a 30-year-old mother after she left her 3-month-old daughter alone in a car.

Police said India Wise left the child in her running, unlocked car while she shopped at a North Versailles Walmart around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigators said an anonymous caller reported the incident to police. Officers arrested Wise as she left the store, police said.

According to police, Wise was inside the store for at least 15 minutes. She told officers she was buying food and baby formula and admits to making a mistake.

The girl is now in the custody of family members. Wise was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Nicole Bruno is one of the many appalled parents Channel 11’s Timyka Artist talked to Wednesday.

“She’s only 3. It’s dangerous no matter how you look at it,” Bruno said.

Children and Youth Services is investigating the incident.
