Family, friends remember young father killed in ATV crash

EAU CLAIRE, Pa. — A Butler County man was killed when an ATV driven by a 14-year-old boy collided with a tractor-trailer Tuesday afternoon in Eau Claire.

Officials said the crash happened near the intersection of State Route 38 and Garner Street just after 1 p.m.

According to police, the teen was driving the ATV west on Garner Road when he lost control and went onto State Route 38 and collided with the northbound tractor-trailer.

Investigators said Shane Scott, 20, was thrown from the ATV in the accident. He was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Scott's family members, including his girlfriend and mother of his 6-month-old daughter, told Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz how well-liked he was.

"He was my best friend.  He was a wonderful father, and I will let his daughter know every day how great he was," said Scott's girlfriend, Samantha Bevan.

"It's hard.  He was my brother and my best friend.  It hasn't sunken in yet," said Scott's brother, John Scott.

Hours before the tragedy, Shane and his friend, the ATV driver, posted video of them having fun, riding the back roads and hills in northern Butler County.
