Pittsburgh's Jewish community celebrates first day of Hanukkah

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh’s Jewish community celebrated the first full day of Hanukkah on Sunday.

Festivities started around 4:30 p.m. with a parade through Squirrel Hill, Shadyside and Oakland. About 75 cars that participated in the parade carried menorahs.

The day’s events were capped off with the lighting of a 12-foot grand menorah at Schenley Plaza.

Hanukkah celebrates the liberation and re-dedication of the ancient temple in Jerusalem and lasts for eight days.
