Police: 14 suspected drug dealers arrested in Canonsburg

CANONSBURG, Pa. — More than a dozen suspected drug dealers were arrested Tuesday in Canonsburg as part of a three-month undercover operation, police said.

Authorities said several residents have complained recently at town meetings about the presence of drugs and illegal activity in the area, leading to the roundup.

“The reason we target street-level dealers is because they are committing most of the crime in our neighborhood,” Canonsburg Police Detective Al Coghill said.

Police told Channel 11’s Cara Sapida that they think the arrests will also lead to a decrease in break-ins and burglaries.

“If we can take these people out of our society, we learn the burglaries and car break-ins diminish to almost nothing,” Canonsburg Mayor David Rhome said.

The names of the 14 suspects arrested have not been released. Rhome and Coghill told Sapida that the majority of the heroin and cocaine dealers arrested came to Canonsburg from out of town.

“I’m proud of this department and the aggressive approach they took that led to the arrest of 14 individuals,” Rhome said.

Authorities said their efforts in cleaning up the streets of Canonsburg will continue with more arrests.
