Police probe possible connection between Route 65 crash, attempted robbery at casino

PITTSBURGH — City of Pittsburgh and state police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that stopped traffic along Route 65 in Sewickley on Tuesday.

The crash occurred in the 600 block of Route 65 just after 11 a.m.

"It was right in front of us.  The kids saw it.  It was pretty scary," said witness Casey Ubrey.

PennDOT officials said Route 65 was closed in both directions from the Sewickley Bridge in Sewickley Borough to Beaver Street in Glen Osbourne Borough due to the crash.

Around 2:15 p.m., Channel 11's Trisha Pittman reported traffic began moving again.

Authorities are investigating whether the Route 65 activity is connected to the report of an attempted robbery outside Rivers Casino shortly before the crash.

"An incident took place at the casino.  What occurred down there, that's still being pieced together," said Trooper Tony Plunkard.
