Police: Puppy stabbed, another thrown against wall in Washington Co.

NEW EAGLE, Pa. — Police said Kimberly and Danny Watts left their 2-year-old child home alone with two pit bull puppies, and one of them bit the girl.

When the couple got home, police said a puppy was thrown against a wall.  She now has a cast on her leg.

Another puppy was stabbed at least five times with a knife, police said.

"The fact that they left a 2-year-old alone with the puppies … Naturally, they're going to want to plan.  The child did receive an injury, cutting her lip," said police officer Brian Tempest.

Tempest said Kimberly Watts initially lied, saying she stabbed the dog to save her child but later confessed something else.

"The mother yelled at the puppy and grabbed a knife.  She went into the backroom and stabbed the puppy several times," Tempest said.

The puppy was stabbed twice in the head, twice in the chest and once in the back, police said.

When humane officers and police arrived, they said despite their pain, both puppies were friendly.

"Both were injured and very friendly.  Puppies like to jump and play.  That is all the one puppy was doing," said Tempest.

When asked why she did it, Kimberly Watts blamed her childhood.

The girl needed stitches.  The puppies are being cared for by a local humane officer.  Two other dogs that were in the home were taken away.
