Police say speed played role in fatal Butler County motorcycle accident

MUDDY CREEK TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Investigators said speed played a role in a fatal motorcycle crash Sunday night in Butler County.

According to police, Thomas Shaffer, of Slippery Rock, was speeding when he lost control on Route 422 in Muddy Creek Township about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities said Shaffer hit an embankment and was thrown from his bike. He was wearing a helmet.
