Police: School placed on lockdown after man tried luring 4-year-old boy

UNIONTOWN, Pa. — Authorities in Fairchance have increased police presence after the report of an attempted abduction Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, a mother alerted authorities after a man tried to lure her 4-year-old son into his van.

The boy’s mother told detectives that he pulled up in front of their house in a full-size white utility van with no windows, a sliding door and a roof rack while her son was playing on the front porch.

The mother said when she saw the van pull up she went outside and the man was talking to her son.

According to the woman, the man asked her if she was alone. She told him it was none of his business and asked him to leave. The man then left.

Her son then told her that the man said to him, “I have a lot of toys in my basement. Why don’t you come home with me and we can play in my basement?”

The woman said she then called the police.

Officials from the Albert Gallatin School District said the elementary and middle schools were locked down after the report of the attempted abduction.

Investigators said the man is described as about 50 years old. He was wearing a black hat and a green shirt.
