Thunderstorms moving through viewing area; Tornado watch issued

PITTSBURGH — A tornado watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for much of the WPXI-TV viewing area until 9 p.m. Sunday.

Severe Weather Team 11 is tracking the potential for strong storms to develop.

Meteorologist Scott Harbaugh said scattered, strong storms that developed in Ohio will move into the area late Sunday afternoon and into the evening. Torrential rain, damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes are possible. Potentially flooding rain is also a concern through mid-evening.

A flood warning is in effect for Mercer and Venango counties until 8:30 p.m.

Monday is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high of 71. The chance for rain will still exist.
