Trial begins for man accused of shooting mother, killing McKeesport man in 2013

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — The first day of Talon Perozich’s trial Wednesday was filled with emotional testimony from the woman whom Perozich is accused of shooting, along with her boyfriend, two years ago during a home invasion.

Perozich faces numerous charges, including criminal homicide, in connection with a 2013 home invasion in McKeesport that left Stephanie Pavlovic shot in the hand and her boyfriend, Brian Cook, dead.

Prosecutors played the 911 recording from the day of the home invasion and shooting for the first time in court on Wednesday.

“I’ve been shot. My boyfriend has been shot,” Pavlovic was heard saying on the recording.

Investigators said Perozich, who was 19 at the time, broke in and shot the couple with their 1-year-old baby in the neighboring room.

Pavlovic testified Wednesday that she “woke up to gunshots and saw someone with a shotgun in the doorway.” She said she got up and ran next door to her neighbor’s house to call police.

When asked during the 911 call whether she knew who was behind the shooting, Pavlovic responds, “No, I do not. I was sleeping."

However, Pavlovic said she told paramedics moments after the call that she thoughts Perozich was responsible.

During Pavlovic’s cross-examination, Perozich’s attorney argued that she could not identify the shooter. He also questioned the whereabouts of the couple’s friend who was staying with them the night of the shooting.

That friend is expected to testify when the trial resumes Thursday.
