Man accused of sexually abusing boy he met at church camp

EXPORT — An Export man is accused of sexually abusing a boy he met at church camp.

Police learned about the allegations in September of 2015 when the alleged victim’s parents showed police sexual messages found on his cellphone.

The alleged victim, 13, admitted to a relationship with Ronald Kingsley Hazen, 21. He told officers the two met at church camp nearly five years earlier.

According to court documents, the two had no contact after the camp until August of 2015. At that time, Hazen sent the alleged victim a friend request. That led to online conversations.

Court documents show the alleged victim told police Hazen picked him up multiple times over a two week period. The two would go to locations in Avonmore and Allegheny Township and engage in sex acts.

The alleged victim said Hazen sent an explicit picture of himself to the victim.

Channel 11 tracked down Hazen at his apartment. He answered the door, but told Channel 11’s Melanie Gillespie that he didn’t want to comment.

Gillespie reached out to the attorney reportedly representing Hazen, but did not hear back.

Hazen is charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault and corruption of minors.

Our news partners at TribLIVE reached out to Westmoreland County detectives to find out why it took a year to charge Hazen. They did not hear back.
