Man dies after shooting near Wilkinsburg Wendy's

WILKINSBURG, Pa. — A shooting victim who ran into an alley across the street from a Wendy’s restaurant in Wilkinsburg Monday morning has died, Channel 11 News has learned.

The medical examiner identified the victim as Antonio Troutman, 19, of Wilkinsburg. Channel 11’s Aaron Martin spoke to a friend of Troutman’s.

“He worked for me periodically over the years,” the friend said. “Tony was a good kid. I don’t know who would want to kill him.”

The shooting happened about 11:30 a.m., in a parking lot not far from the Wendy’s on Peebles Street. Police say Troutman was shot in the neck.

Investigators said Troutman ran to the alley, which is located next to a medical supplies business. A physician assistant from a nearby doctor’s office tried to perform CPR, but it was too late. Troutman was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“It’s our babies that are dying,” the friend said. “This just happened to be a kid who grew up with my son. He’s well liked in the neighborhood.”

Investigators say at least four shots were fired, and several people were involved on each side. They aren’t sure what sparked the daytime violence.

“We don’t need any more casualties like this over something so senseless, whatever it was about,” the friend said. “It wasn’t worth a life.”
