Man found shot to death in homeowner's backyard ID'd

DORMONT, Pa. — Police are investigating after a man was found fatally shot  in a backyard in Dormont.

Officials said a homeowner found the body of a 35-year-old black male in his Epsy Street yard on Thursday. Police said the victim had been shot at least twice, and they are investigating his death as a homicide.

The woman who lives in the home said she heard five gunshots Wednesday night and called police. Allegheny County police said they received that report around 8 p.m. and responded to the intersection of LaSalle and Broadway avenues.

Police found ballistic evidence and conducted a thorough search of the area, but did not find any victims Wednesday night. Police said the area in which the victim was found could not be seen from the street.

The woman found the body when she let her dog out onto her back patio Thursday afternoon.

Investigators said they believe the man's death is related to the gunshots Wednesday night. In a news release, police said they believe the victim was part of that incident and ran to the backyard to hide. The victim was later identified as Chaz Robinson, 35, of Dormont.

Anyone with information is asked to call Dormont police or the Allegheny County Police Department homicide unit at 412-473-1300. Anyone in that area who has home surveillance video is also asked to call police.
