PLEASANT HILLS, Pa. — Police are investigating the death of a Carnegie man as a hit-and-run.
David Ruiz, 43, was found shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday in the middle of Curry Hollow Road near the Walgreens store in Pleasant Hills. Allegheny County police said Ruiz was taken to a hospital, where he died.
"Why didn't they stop? Take responsibility. It was an accident," said Ruiz’s co-worker, Susan Grecco.
Ruiz’s girlfriend, who did not want to be identified, said he was going to Walgreens for a pack of cigarettes.
"I seen the ambulance and the police. And I came over 'cause I called him and called him, and he didn't pick up. I said something must be wrong, so I came over and the police told me what happened," Ruiz’s girlfriend of two years said.
Police said the vehicle believed to be involved is a Jeep Grand Cherokee, between model years 1999 and 2004. The color of the vehicle is unknown, but police said it will likely be missing the passenger side mirror and antenna. There may also be other significant damage to the passenger side of the vehicle.
Anyone who sees a vehicle fitting the description is asked to call 911. Anyone with information about the vehicle or the crash is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit at 412-473-1300. Callers can remain anonymous.
