Man pleads guilty in deadly South Side hit-and-run

PITTSBURGH — A man charged in connection with the hit-and-run death of a 26-year-old woman in the South Side plead guilty.

Kyle O’Connor of Eastern Pennsylvania pleaded guilty Monday of involuntary manslaughter, accidents involving death or personal injury, failure to stop and careless driving resulting in an unintentional death.

Police said O'Connor had been out to several bars in the South Side last June and admitted to drinking at least eight beers. He was driving home when he struck and killed Jessica McChesney as she crossed the street at the intersection of Baum Boulevard and Moorewood Avenue. McChesney had just left a friend's party.

The hit-and-run crash was caught on surveillance video.

O’Connor told police McChesney ran out in front of his vehicle and could not stop in time. He said he “freaked out” and continued to go home – not stopping to help McChesney or call police.

O’Connor is set to be sentenced in late May.
