Man shoots 2 armed men who tried to rob him at ATM, police say

PITTSBURGH — A man shot two would-be robbers early Thursday an ATM in Homewood, according to Pittsburgh police.

The 42-year-old man told police he was using an ATM on North Homewood Avenue shortly after 1 a.m., when two masked 16-year-olds with guns approached him and tried to rob him.

Police said he pulled out his own gun and shot one of the would-be robbers in the leg and the other in the stomach.

The man, who was not injured, had a license to carry the firearm.

"The victim happened to have a weapon that he is licensed to carry and he used that to defend himself in this situation," police spokesperson Sonya Toler said.

Both of the would-be robbers were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Police recovered the teenagers’ guns at the scene.

Charges against them are pending.
