Investigators said the suspects shot and killed the family dog before killing 40-year-old Thomas Cheeks.

Cheeks was a local barbershop owner. Since the shooting, a sign has been posted on the front door, saying that it would be closed due to a death.

Tyler Dersham owns Mario's Pizza on Greentree Road, just a few doors down from the barbershop that Cheeks owned.

"I got married a couple of months ago," Dersham said. "He had my whole wedding party down for free haircuts. He was just a caring guy."

The victim’s wife and 14-year-old son were in a nearby room and were not hurt.

The shooters ran off before the wife called 911. Paramedics pronounced Cheeks dead at the scene.

"I saw the police and a couple of the other neighbors, women coming down, and we were just stunned,” neighbor Patty Radcliffe said.

No arrests have been made. A description of the suspects was not available.
