Moon Twp. leaders address traffic concerns amid Walmart store construction

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — As construction continues on a new Walmart store on a main roadway in Moon Township, township leaders are addressing residents’ concerns about an anticipated increase in traffic.

With a lawsuit settled between Walmart and the township that delayed the construction, the focus is on the heavily traveled University Boulevard, where Robert Morris University is also located.%

“(We) see 20,000 vehicles a day on University Boulevard,” Moon Township Assistant Manager Scott Brilhart.

Brilhart told Channel 11 News that the Walmart is scheduled to be opened in November, and with the new project comes road improvements.

University Boulevard, Brodhead Road and Beaver Grade road will all be widened, with turning lanes added and new traffic signals.

“As part of the project, they had to do a traffic study and identify which traffic improvements are needed,” Brilhart said.

In a separate road project a half mile away, a left turning lane will be added at the RMU entrance.

Brilhart said all of the improvements should help traffic flow once completed.
