Nearly 6 years after her daughter went missing, mother refuses to give up hope

PITTSBURGH — Six years after 19-year-old Alivia Kail was last seen, her mother refuses to give up hope that her daughter will return home.

Kail was last seen on March 5, 2011, when she went to pick up clothes at her uncle's home in West Mifflin. At the time, she told friends and family that she was planning to take a trip with her boyfriend, Alex Lorenzi.

"That's where it stopped, where we've never seen or heard from her again," said Christine Didiano, Alivia's mother.

Friends and family plastered posters around Pittsburgh hoping to find Alivia.

Months after Kail's disappearance, police arrested her boyfriend on unrelated charges. Lorenzi has never been charged in the case. He told several people that Kail decided to stay in Florida, but her friends and family insist that there’s more to the story.

"It's been a big hardship for our entire family. It's changed all of our lives," said Didiano.

In 2013, Allegheny County police searched three areas near the Allegheny County Airport, saying they had evidence that indicated that that's where Alivia's cellphone was last used.

At the same time, the FBI announced that they had reason to believe that Kail may be alive, and a victim of sex trafficking in Florida.

"You don't grieve, and you have hope. So it's like, you know, it's 50/50 every day. It's a tremendous heartache. It's something that you live through and live with, but I don't have a closure," said Didiano.

Didiano has begun working with the Anti-Predator Project in Florida in the hope of finding Kail alive.

When contacted by Channel 11 News, the Allegheny County Police Department and the FBI refused to offer any comment or update on the case.
