.

For the first time, Lady Liberty is being depicted as an African-American woman wearing a crown of stars.  The coin celebrates the 225th anniversary of the U.S. Mint, which was established in 1792.

All the one ounce gold coins will be made in New York out of 24 karat gold.

This design is the first in a new series that will also feature depictions of Lady Liberty as Asian, Hispanic and Indian-Americans, with new coins debuting every two years.
