North Braddock police officer reprimanded for cursing at student on school bus

NORTH BRADDOCK, Pa. — A North Braddock police officer has been reprimanded for cursing at a student on a school bus, North Braddock Mayor Thomas Whyel said Thursday.

Video of the incident posted on Facebook last week, spread across social media.

“You think you're funny? Smile in my face one more time and I'll be dragging your (expletive) off this bus and back to that (expletive) police car. Don't smile one more time,” the officer is heard saying in the video.%

Propel Schools said the incident involved a North Braddock officer and an elementary school student as children were being taken home for the day.

A spokeswoman for the school issued the following statement to Channel 11 News:

"Propel Schools is aware of the incident. We are currently in discussion with the family and reaching out to the police department as well."

Whyel said the bus driver had flagged down the officer because the students were out of hand, but said the situation wasn’t handled well.

The mayor confirmed the officer was given a verbal and written warning.

“We don't take this lightly. He's a good police officer. We want to find out what happened. We want to get to the bottom of this,” he told Channel 11 News.

Whyel said he'll be meeting with school leaders and possibly the family of the student next week.
