APOLLO, Pa. — A man and woman suspected of kidnapping a 77-year-old woman from a grocery store parking lot, holding her captive for almost 24 hours and forcing her to withdraw money from her bank account are back in Pennsylvania to face charges.
Scott Harley Lichtenwaltner and April Lynn Alsippi were arrested in Ohio on Sept. 22. They were extradited to the Westmoreland County Jail on Tuesday, where investigators questioned the suspects for hours. Officials said they will officially file kidnapping charges Wednesday.
Officials said the kidnapping happened Sept. 20, when the pair asked the victim for a ride in the parking lot of Shop ‘n Save in North Apollo. Police said the victim pulled over, then Lichtenwaltner got into her car. Police said Alsippi pulled out a knife and first forced the victim into the back of the vehicle, then into the trunk.
The next morning, the pair allegedly went to the Apollo Trust bank and forced the victim to withdraw $5,000 from her bank account at an ATM. Surveillance cameras captured images of Alsippi.
The victim told police the pair finally let her go, and she drove to a Burger King in Belle Vernon, where she called her husband for help.
Investigators said Lichtenwaltner and Alsippi were trying to get to Wyoming when they were captured at a hotel in Marion, Ohio, where Lichtenwaltner grew up.
