PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins are planning a “Gold Rush” for the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs, which begin Wednesday night at CONSOL Energy Center.

The team will distribute gold t-shirts and rally towels to fans who attend each playoff home game.

The Penguins host the New York Rangers in the first round. They will wear their “Pittsburgh Gold” uniforms for all home games during the playoffs.

The “Pittsburgh Gold” design has been the Penguins’ third jersey for the past two seasons. It is virtually identical to the black-and-gold design the Penguins wore during the 1980s and in the Stanley Cup championship seasons of 1990-91 and 1991-92.

The Penguins also will create a Fan Zone outside CONSOL Energy Center that will be activated three hours before all home playoff games.

There will be different activities at each of the arena’s three gates:

  • Trib Total Media Gate – Bud Light Party Plaza, DJ, interactives
  • Peoples Gate – Kids' interactives, face painters
  • Verizon Gate – Miller Lite Party Plaza, DJ, interactives

The team announced Monday morning that 1,200 tickets remain for Game 1.
