Pittsburgh-area woman out of surgery after second double-lung transplant

PITTSBURGH — A 22-year-old woman

for the second time is out of surgery.

Morgan Yoney was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was just 9 months old. In 2010, she received a double lung and liver transplant, but in 2013, her body began to reject the lungs.

The community has rallied around Yoney and her family, posting signs and spreading the word that she was in need. Among her biggest supporters is Studio Raw Salon owner Dan Burda.

“I think this time of year and many times in life, we need reassurance that we believe in something,” Burda said. “For something like this to happen so close to Christmas has reinstalled a lot of faith and belief in many hearts in our community.”

Thursday’s surgery lasted seven-and-a-half hours. Yoney’s mother called the new lungs “beautiful” and said they definitely got the Christmas miracle for which they've been praying.

Yoney will be kept under close observation for the next few days while her body adjusts to the new lungs.
