Pittsburgh police: Man shot during attempted home invasion in East Hills

PITTSBURGH — A man was shot in the shoulder Monday afternoon during an attempted home invasion in Pittsburgh’s East Hills neighborhood, police said.

Investigators said two people entered a unit at the Maple Ridge Apartments in the 2100 block of Park Hill Drive and confronted the 35-year-old victim and a woman who were inside.

At least two shots were fired, one of which struck the victim and the other a wall, authorities said.

Azula Collins told Channel 11 News that he heard the gunshots and run up the complex’s steps. He said when he reached the third floor, he found his niece’s fiancée shot in the shoulder.

“When I went to the steps, that's when he said, ‘They shot me,’” Collins said.

Authorities said the victim was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital in stable condition. The woman was uninjured.

Police said the alleged shooters fled the apartment and left in a dark-colored SUV.

“They parked a vehicle behind the complex,” Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Emily Schaffer said. “The vehicle (was a) dark-colored SUV, I believe, and (they) fled into that vehicle.”

The Group Violence Intervention Unit is investigating.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Pittsburgh police.
