Pittsburgh Steelers ranked as ‘Elite Cheaters' in new report

PITTSBURGH — According to YourTeamCheats.com, there is only one team in the NFL that cheats more than the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The website ranked all 32 NFL teams based on scandals, including dirty hits.

The top team (the Denver Broncos), based upon total team CheatPoints, gets "The Biggest Cheater" title and the bottom team (the Jacksonville Jaguars) earns "The Feeblest" tag.

The distance between the top and bottom scores is divided into 10 equal tiers and teams are labeled based upon where they fall within those tiers.

The Steelers (ranked No. 2) fall into the "Elite Cheaters" category, along with the New York Jets, Washington Redskins and Indianapolis Colts.

The Steelers have been involved in three of the top 23 cheats in history, according to the site.

No. 6 – Impedegate (2013)

About midway through the third quarter of the Steelers-Ravens game on Thanksgiving night, head coach Mike Tomlin stepped onto the field, altering returner Jacoby Jones' path.

Jones returned the kick 73 yards, but was eventually tackled, and the Ravens settled for a field goal on the drive.

Tomlin was later fined $100,000, but the Steelers did not lose any draft picks because of the play.

No. 11 – Steroidgate ('70s)

In 2008, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw admitted that he used steroids during his playing career.

Bradshaw said on Dan Patrick's radio show: “We did steroids to get away the aches and the speed of healing. My use of steroids from a doctor was to speed up injury, and thought nothing of it. It was to speed up the healing process, that was it. It wasn't to get bigger and stronger and faster.”

Former New Orleans Saints Head Coach Jim Haslett accused the '70s Steelers of being "the ones who kind of started" steroid use in the NFL.

"It started, really, in Pittsburgh. They got an advantage on a lot of football teams. They were so much stronger (in the) '70s, late '70s, early '80s,” Haslett said.

The Steelers won four Super Bowls in the 1970s.

No. 23 – Cheapsgate (6X since 2010)

Pittsburgh Steelers players have been fined six times for illegal hits since the 2010 season -- the highest total in the league. James Harrison has been responsible for several of them.

In 2010, Harrison was fined $20,000 for roughing the passer, Drew Brees.

In 2011, Harrison was suspended for one game because of a hit on Colt McCoy.

Perhaps most notably, Harrison was fined $75,000 for a hit on Mohamed Massaquoi also in the 2010 season.

No. 49 – Salarycapgate (2000)

No. 67 – Shouldergate (1978)

No. 102 – Crampgate (2012)

No. 110 – PEDSgate (1985-2007)

No. 120 – PEDSgate (2X since 1995)

No. 141 – Tarpgate (1976)

No. 191 – Spygate (1992-2006)
