Pizza delivery driver robbed at gunpoint in East Liberty for $19, cellphone

Police are searching for the men accused of robbing a pizza delivery driver at gunpoint, escaping with just $19 and the driver's cellphone.

The robbery was reported around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday in East Liberty when a food delivery driver for Pizza Perfectta in Shadyside attempted to make a delivery to an address on Ipswich Court, police said.

When the driver arrived in the parking lot, a man approached him as if he were the customer. As the man approached the delivery car, he looked behind the driver, swore and ran away, police said.

The driver turned and saw three young men with their faces covered by dark-colored bandannas approaching him. Two of the three were pointing guns at him, police said.

The gunmen escaped with the $19 and the delivery driver's cellphone, and the men ran away toward Larimer Avenue. There were no reported injuries.

East Liberty resident David Coles said the crime was surprising in the close-knit neighborhood.

"It's a different time, I guess," Coles said. "People don't have the respect they used to."

Pittsburgh police issued an alert about a month ago to delivery drivers, especially on the North Side, to be careful after four robberies of delivery drivers in two weeks. Police have an arrest warrant out for a 17-year-old wanted in connection with the delivery driver robberies on the North Side.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
