School board offers Plum superintendent paid leave following grand jury report

The Plum School Board met for the first time Tuesday night since a scathing grand jury report on a teacher sex scandal was released to the public. More than 100 people attended, with many calling for the district’s superintendent to resign.

“You need to step down. Get the hell out of here,” parent Anthony Massarelli said during the public comment portion of Tuesday’s meeting.%

The meeting was the first time parents had the chance to face and question district leaders after the damning report, and since Plum High School Principal Ryan Kociela was placed on administrative leave.

The grand jury report released last week detailed years of inappropriate conduct between teachers and students despite the apparent knowledge of administrators.

A majority of parents at Tuesday’s meeting agreed that Kociela should not be singled out and demanded that Superintendent Timothy Glasspool step down.

“Resign, you failed to supervise,” one parent said.

Glasspool sat stoically without saying a word for the majority of the meeting until he responded to one parent’s questions, saying he does not intend to resign.

“I will continue to work for the district,” he said.

Following public comment, the school board went into an executive session and emerged with Glasspool.

A board member said Glasspool was offered paid administrative leave and would take the next 48 hours to make his decision.

Many in the crowd were not happy, with some booing the board as they tried to move forward with the meeting’s agenda.
