Police: Man violated PFA, set estranged wife's home on fire

A man is in police custody after he allegedly violated a protection from abuse order, held a gun to his estranged wife’s head and set her home on fire in Westmoreland County.

Daniel Rumon, 53, was taken into custody after police found him lying unconscious in a creek bed with prescription medication and empty beer cans nearby.

State police said Rumon was found about 400 yards away from the Gill Road home that he's accused of setting on fire.

Police said the incident started with a report of a domestic dispute just before noon Saturday. Investigators said Rumon showed up at his estranged wife’s home, in violation of a PFA order that was issued in March. That order was put in place after Rumon fired a gun outside her home.

On Saturday, police said Rumon entered the home, bound his estranged wife and held a gun to her head. The woman was able to escape uninjured and called Washington Township police. Rumon then allegedly set the home on fire, destroying it.

There were no reported injuries and Rumon was transported to a hospital. It was not clear on Saturday night what charges he will face.
