Police recover 800+ stolen items from Washington County home

Police raided a Washington County home and found more than 800 items stolen from multiple states.

Levi Stroud, 21, of Hanover Township, is accused of the crimes.

Investigators said they were doing a probation compliance check on Stroud when they noticed two guns. They came back with a search warrant and said they found hundreds of stolen items including guns, drugs, laptops, and cellphones inside of his Steubenville Pike home.

Hanover Township police said the suspect would find an unlocked car, grab what he could and go sell it at a pawn shop. Police said the bust could solve nearly a dozen crimes.

"They're targeting unlocked vehicles. Something that's quick where they won't notice anybody because it's all occurring at night," Hanover Township police Officer Daniel McMurtrie said. "It's a little overwhelming to be honest with you. You go in looking for your stuff and you don't realize that this is a lot bigger than you anticipated."

The more items investigators pulled out, the more crimes were solved in nearby communities like McDonald, Findlay and in Weirton, West Virginia.

Many of the items still had not been identified as of Thursday evening.

Stroud is in jail on a probation violation, and investigators said they’ll soon file more charges involving the guns, drugs and stolen items.

Hanover Township police asked anyone who had something stolen recently in Washington County, western Allegheny County or in the West Virginia panhandle to contact police.
