Police seek man who shot at woman's car during road rage incident

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — Authorities are working to track down a man who they say shot at a woman’s car during a road rage incident over the weekend on Route 51 in Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County.

“I was really scared, upset. I had an anxiety attack. They had to take me by ambulance to the hospital,” the woman, who asked to remain anonymous, told Channel 11 News on Tuesday.

Authorities said the incident began at an exit ramp for Route 51 from Interstate 70 in Rostraver Township. A driver attempted to merge onto Route 51 north, but no merge lane exists at the exit, and the victim was in the right lane, police said.

“He wanted to get in front of me. He was in a hurry. I don't know if he had a bad night or what happened,” the woman said.

Investigators said the merge was the start of several miles of road rage behind the victim’s car before the driver pulled out in front of her.

“He went around me and cut me off, did a check brake. I put my high beams on, like, ‘Hey buddy, you almost hit me,’” the woman said.

She said the driver then sped off, and she thought she was finally out of harm’s way.

The victim said as she drove along, she spotted the driver’s white Buick on the side of the road and saw the driver standing outside his car with his arm up.

“I thought, ‘Oh no. He's going to hit my car,’” the woman said.

She said she first thought he had a bottle or brick in his hand, but soon learned it was a gun. The victim said she didn’t realize a bullet had struck her car until she pulled over to inspect it and found a bullet hole.

Rostraver police said they hope someone recognizes the vehicle’s description in order to track down the driver who fired a .44-caliber gun.
