PITTSBURGH — An 18-year-old Pittsburgh Public Schools student is facing aggravated assault charges after he allegedly injured a teacher during a confrontation over him selling drugs.
Authorities said the incident happened in December at the Student Achievement Center in Homewood when a teacher saw a student acting suspiciously in an alleyway next to the school.
School police were contacted, and the student, identified as 18-year-old Emory Broadenlash, was confronted.
Police said the teacher, who has not been identified, was hurt during a scuffle, which also involved the school’s principal. School officials said the teacher was not seriously hurt.
Authorities said after Broadenlash was put into handcuffs, officers found 20 baggies of marijuana worth about $220 to $235 on Broadenlash.
Broadenlash is charged with aggravated assault and drug possession with intent to deliver.
School officials declined to comment on whether Broadenlash will be allowed to return to school.
