Police: Woman accuses Uber driver of unwanted sexual advances

ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Police in Ross Township are investigating a woman’s report that an Uber driver made unwanted sexual advances.

According to investigators, the woman called 911 shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday after the driver dropped her off at her destination, the Barrel Junction Bar on Route 8 in Shaler.

The woman told police that the indecent contact occurred when the driver stopped mid-ride in Ross Township.

She said she was able to push him away and he dropped her off at the bar, where she called police.

Investigators are working with Uber to obtain driver and trip information through a search warrant.

They urge anyone using a ride service to follow these safety precautions:

  • Request the ride through an actual account, not on the street with a driver.
  • Travel with friends.
  • Photograph the license plate before you get in.
  • Verify the car and driver is who is supposed to pick you up before you get in.
  • Text or tell a friend that you are using a ride service, and share your location.
  • If the driver is not a trusted friend, do not treat them as such and be careful what information you share.
  • Trust your instincts and do not get in the car if you do not feel safe.

A spokesperson for Uber told Channel 11 News that the company is aware of the incident and is working with police.

The spokesperson added that the driver’s alleged actions would be in violation of their code of conduct, and said the driver has been banned from working for Uber while the investigation is ongoing.
