Red Cross: 29 homes destroyed in Connellsville flooding, nearly 350 residents receive assistance

CONNELLSVILLE, Pa. — The American Red Cross of Western Pennsylvania said Saturday that it has provided assistance to nearly 350 Connellsville residents since Monday, after flooding Sunday night prompted a state of emergency to be declared.

Of 161 homes identified by the Red Cross damage assessment team to have been damaged, 29 are considered destroyed and 45 have major damage.

As of Friday, 122 assistance cases had been opened, serving a total of 342 people, the Red Cross said. Volunteers have distributed over 3,300 bulk items, including water, snacks, clean-up kits and other supplies.

The Red Cross service center will be located at the Connellsville Township Volunteer Fire Department on Fireman Street through Monday. On Tuesday, it will move to Connellsville Area Community Ministries on West Crawford Avenue.
