Shots fired during robbery at Pittsburgh convenience store

PITTSBURGH — Two shots were fired during a robbery early Wednesday morning at a convenience store in Pittsburgh’s Lincoln Place neighborhood.

Police were called to the Sunoco on Interboro Avenue shortly before 2 a.m.

According to investigators, the robber fired a shot from a silver handgun into a cigarette display after demanding money from an employee who did not immediately get up from his seat and move to the cash register.

After the shot, the employee got up and began to retrieve money from the cash register.

As the employee was gathering money, the robber fired another shot into the cigarette case.

“I opened the drawer starting to give him money and he made another shot and said, ‘faster,’” the cashier, identified only as Stan, said. “He wanted to scare me, because first he shot to the side and the second one he could have shot me, but he shot to the other side.”

The robber left the scene in a red Chevy Cruze, headed toward Mifflin Road.

No one was hurt.

Channel 11's Steven Fisher reported that about $400 was taken from the store, which was also robbed two months ago.

Police said the robber is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs about 300 pounds and has a short afro. He was wearing a brown and white jacket, a brown and white checkered bandana and a baseball cap with a black star.
