Shots fired into Garfield home with mother, 5-year-old inside; gunman at large

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are searching for whoever fired several gunshots at a home in Garfield.

The incident was reported around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 5200 block of Schenley Avenue. There were no reported injuries.

Investigators said a 42-year-old woman was in her home with her 5-year-old son when she heard several gunshots and glass breaking in the home.

"I threw him on the floor, and I dragged him so he wouldn't stand up. That's when I saw the one bullet. So I just dragged him upstairs to safety,” the mother, who did not want to be identified, told Channel 11 News.

Police later found two bullets in the woman’s kitchen. She said they missed her son by inches. Neither the woman nor her son were hurt.

“To know that you can be sitting at your dining room table and be taken from this world, and not even by God's hand, it's sick,” the mother said.

Witnesses said a man wearing all black was seen running through backyards and jumping fences at the time of the incident.

As the search for the shooter continues, the victim shared her message to the person responsible with Channel 11 News.

"I don't understand it, and I can't even judge them, but I'm praying for them. Their lives, they have to answer to God for this,” she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
