Store owner dies after suffering heart attack while trying to stop candy thief

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. — A woman wanted in three counties in Pennsylvania is facing felony after her last attempted robbery caused a store owner to have a massive heart attack and die, according to NBC affiliate

.

Bedford County District Attorney Bill Higgins told

that the deadly incident started Wednesday morning when Trista Foor, 26, walked into Linda’s General Store in Hopewell Township and attempted to steal a pack of Sour Patch Kids and Gummy Hamburgers. Police said the candy was worth less than $3.

The store’s owner, Linda Fluke, was called to the store and argued outside with Foor about stealing the candy. Surveillance video obtained by

showed Fluke walking back inside the store to call police. Higgins said that’s when Fluke suffered a massive heart attack and died.%

Fluke’s son, Robert Margraff, spent the following day remembering his mother who built Linda’s General Store from scratch.

“My mother worked hard for this business, and I just, I wish people would have more courtesy and not think everything should be given to them,” he told

.

reported that Wednesday’s incident occurred a little more than a year after the store’s owners tackled a would-be robber, holding him down until police arrived.

Margraff told

that 32 surveillance cameras have been installed at the store, saying any theft is a big deal and definitely not worth his mother’s life.

“She came from having nothing. These kids today don’t need to turn to drugs and think she should have things given to them,” he said.

Foor was wanted in the tri-county area for two prior retail theft offenses, Higgins told

.

"As far as argument and the crime, those things likely contributed to her death. I will seriously take that into consideration on how this case is resolved," Higgins told

.

Foor is facing retail theft charges and felony in the third degree. She was arraigned Thursday and taken to the Bedford County Jail.
